Marking the end of 4 years studying graphic design, The Power of graphic design deals with the notions of ethic, influence and power balance. Speaking about the concrete impact of the graphic elements on our way of thinking, on how we build ourselves as individuals but also as societies, this book shows a reflexion on the designers’ responsibility and ethic as well as the mind awareness of the spectator.
The book is made of 2 big major parts and a third one added during my last year which closes the reflexion developed all along the pages.
The first part is all about the 5 main tools available to the designer, and their influences on our brains.
Color, forms, typography, images – including illustration and photography, and composition are then scanned, examined and analyzed in order to inform the reader on their origins, their usefulness and purpose for the designer and mostly on what their unconscious influences are on our tiny little conditioned human brain.
The power of graphic design is, as its name speaks for itself, a book about power. The designer ethic was then the logical next step to the first part. Because with great power come great responsibilities, right?
This reflexion about ethic and power lead me to go further, and to talk about the power holds in the eyes of the spectators themselves, the independence of the spectator.
That’s how the world of design is born, its main goal being answering concretely to the questions raised all along the book.
To discover more about this wonderful world, that’s over here!
